An Apprenticeship is a qualification  completed by employees in the workplace.  Apprentices learn whilst working and so develop skills and knowledge useful to the business.

Apprenticeships  are designed  to raise the competency and performance of employess within their job role. There are 4 elements that make up an Apprenticeship:  An NVQ/SVQ is the major component, which involves building up a portfolio of evidence of tasks completed in the workplace;  a Technical Certificate which provides industry-specific knowledge to support the NVQ/SVQ;  Key Skills which cover essential workplace skills in Communication, Application of Number and for some Apprenticeships, Information Technology;  Employment Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) which covers knowledge of the rights and responsibilities of an employer and employee.
