What is the Response to Redundancy programme?
“Response to Redundancy” (R2R) is the name given to the £100m scheme that was launched in response to the economic downturn and increasing numbers of job redundancies experienced by UK workers.
R2R assistance is aimed at individuals who are under notice of redundancy, those who have recently been made redundant and those who are unemployed but would be work-ready after a short period of training.
Rewards can currently support individuals living in the Brighton, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Horsham areas.
How does it work?
We offer a personal, confidential appointment with each individual to find out what kind of training and development activities they believe would be of benefit to aid their return to the job market. A mutually agreed training plan is then created using a range of FREE computer-based training courses and trainer-led workshops and advice.
The completion of certain courses can lead to qualifications and completion of most courses will lead to a Rewards or learndirect certificate.
Whilst on the R2R programme individuals will also be able to use our computer facilities and access support from trainers and advisors.
What are the benefits to my organisation?
For employers in the unfortunate position of having to make staff redundancies, advice about free training options may be appreciated by affected staff and demonstrates continuing support and empathy by the employer.
The Rewards team are happy to visit and discuss the requirements of individual organisations and/or groups of affected staff if desired.
For staff under notice of redundancy, if the employer permits, we can begin training schemes with affected staff whilst they are working their notice period. This can allow time for national qualifications such as the ITQ to be completed which will boost the computing skills, CV and therefore employability of an individual. (An ITQ is a short NVQ style programme which can be completed much quicker than a traditional NVQ and can be continued both once the individual has worked their notice and is unemployed and also when they secure employment).
How will individuals benefit from the programme?
They can:
- Learn new skills, refresh old skills and boost their confidence.
- Gain a qualification to prove pre-existing skills.
- Meet other like-minded individuals to share job-hunting tips and support.
- Demonstrate to potential future employers (and the jobcentre if relevant) that they are positively using their redundancy to re-train / gain qualifications for pre-existing skills.
- Attend a CV workshop or have a personal session with a Rewards advisor to update their CV.
- Gain certification for skills commonly sought by employers e.g. word processing, Internet and email by completing our free courses.
Who is eligible for the programme?
To be eligible individuals must:
- Be aged 18+ (Referral to alternate organisations necessary for under 18s)
- Have lived in the UK/EU for the last 3 years
- Have been made redundant/unemployed within the last 6 months or are currently under notice of redundancy
- Have not received ESF funded training in the last 3 years (we will advise on this)
