Top up your Literacy and Numeracy skills and qualifications - FREE (government funded) places available NOW!

A good grasp of Maths and English can help in many areas of life - helping your children learn, looking after your money, or helping you get on at work. Improving these skills could really brighten your future and we can help you do it. Rewards offers a wide range of Maths and English courses to help you improve the skills you need everyday which can lead to a recognised Adult Numeracy or Literacy qualification, allowing you to prove how much you have learned.

English (Adult Literacy) Qualification

According to government statistics, one in five adults in Britain struggles with reading and writing. So if you think your English skills are letting you down and holding you back, you are certainly not alone. We have a wide range of courses that will help you to improve your reading, writing and spelling skills, and others that will help you to work on specific areas like punctuation, grammar, spelling or letter writing.

Learn different key skills, including reading and understanding everyday texts, writing, sentence structure, using punctuation correctly, understanding common spelling rules and planning, organising and checking a written document.

Maths (Adult Numeracy) Qualification

We all use numbers everyday - from totting up the shopping bill to helping the kids with their maths homework, from splitting the bill in a restaurant to checking our pay packet at work. We offer Maths courses specially designed to help you improve the number skills you use most often. Whether you need to brush up on the basics of adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing or want to take a fresh look at more challenging number problems like percentages, fractions, decimals and measurements, there is a course to help you.

This programme helps you to improve your everyday number skills - solving number problems, understanding fractions, decimals & percentages, taking measurements confidently and accurately, describing spaces and shapes and understanding information from graphs and charts.

Available at three levels:

Edexcel entry level 3 in Adult Numeracy (click here for course outline)

EDI level 1 certificate in Adult Numeracy (click here for course outline)

EDI level 2 certificate in Adult Numeracy (click here for course outline)

How and where would I study?

Before you enrol on a course you will be able to take a diagnostic assessment to assess what you already know and identify the areas needing more work. From the diagnostic results, a learning programme will be agreed leading to the Certificate in Adult Numeracy or Literacy. Even better, if you have lived in the United Kingdom for the last three years your courses will be fully funded.

Qualifications are provided through on-line computer based courses created by learndirect and similar organisations.  Once enrolled onto the programme you will have free access to both our training suites, with computer facilities and on-hand tutors, located in Haywards Heath and Crawley.  Alternatively "distance learning" (logging into your studies over the Internet from home/work etc) can be negotiated.  On-line and telephone support is available to distance learners, plus, of course, you are welcome to visit your local Rewards training suite for face-to-face help from our qualified tutors.

How do I get a free (funded) place?

Government funding is conditional on age (19+), residence (you must have lived in the UK or EEA for the last 3 years) and demonstration of a learning need. Firstly, all individuals must undertake a confidential short Literacy & Numeracy assessment to determine your learning need and to ensure that our level of training materials and support is tailored to your individual requirements.

What we require from you

Our Adult Literacy and Numeracy programmes offer flexible delivery working either at home or at the learning centre. There is no mandatory attendance other than reviews, however if you attend our training suite then you must book your next session each time you are at the learning centre (to reserve your computer and arrange adequate levels of support). If you cannot attend a booked session then you must ring to re-book.  Learners who miss a booked session without notifying us on three separate occasions will be withdrawn from their programme.

Rewards recommend a commitment of between 8 and 10 hours per week on your training materials.  This will ensure that training materials are covered within a reasonable time scale.  Individuals who do not commit to these hours do not benefit from the training as much and find it harder to pass the test/complete the coursework necessary to obtain their chosen qualification.  As a rough guide, Rewards estimates that individuals on Literacy or Numeracy programmes will achieve their qualification within 2-4 months (but this could be as little as one week for some!).  Additional support is always provided to those who wish to receive it.
